(NEW YORK) Hundreds of women philanthropists will gather to celebrate their collective efforts to make an impact at UJA-Federation of New York’s Women’s Philanthropy third annual signature event, In Her Footsteps: Collective Power Making an Impact. The event on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Grand Hyatt New York, Park Avenue at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, will honor remarkable women who demonstrate extraordinary dedication in the philanthropic world, making a profound impact on the future of our community.

Special guest speaker Gabriela Shalev Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nation will join in recognizing community leaders and philanthropists Nurit Amdur, Bonnie Englebardt Lautenberg, Lois Robbins-Zaro, and Carol S. Weisman.

Nurit Amdur, Co-Founder and CEO of ALEX toys, was born, raised, and educated in Israel. A former First Lieutenant in the Israeli Army, she graduated from Tel Aviv University School of Law in 1974. She later emigrated to the U.S. with her husband and practiced law until 1986 when she and her husband founded Alex Toys. Nurit will be recognized for her exceptional leadership and her deep commitment to philanthropy locally and around the world.

Bonnie Englebardt Lautenberg, Lois Robbins-Zaro, and Carol S. Weisman, sisters and children of Jean and Meyer “Mike” Steinberg, grew up in the Five Towns, NY. They will be recognized for their philanthropic work as individuals and as children modeling their parents, following in their footsteps through contributions and commitment to philanthropic work. All three reside in New York City today and manage the family Real Estate business, Enterprise Asset Management.

In 2009 alone, 28,000 women from all different professions and communities in the New York area raised more than $28 million to make a collective impact on UJA-Federation community projects, helping to combat poverty, enabling the elderly to age with dignity, strengthening children and families, and opening doors to those with disabilities and special needs. To date, more than $22 million has been raised by Women’s Philanthropy as the 2010 campaign continues to grow.

“We are honoring Nurit for her exceptional leadership and her deep commitment to philanthropy locally and around the world. Nurit inspires all those she comes in contact with. She is a role model for current and future generations.” -Passi Rosen-Bayewitz, Associate Executive Director,
